Wishbone Design Studio Bike valued at $6000 - December 2010

One person will win this stunning one-off Wishbone bike which has been hand-painted by Shane Hansen (who designed the Koru Limited Edition Wishbone bike) especially for the Pass it On campaign. Wishbone bikes transform the way kids learn to ride a bike. Starting at 12 months with three wheels, then converting to teach balance on two wheels, this heirloom toy keeps on delivering total joy up to 5 years old.

Hansen says the design is closely aligned with the objectives of the campaign.

"The design ties the into the idea of Pass it On as it is about building international connections and keeping our links from home. It’s about us Kiwis leaving home to have adventures in other places but also being proud of who we are and where we come from. The black represents the feathers of flight and also the black used by our sports teams. The blue is the stretch of water that divides our islands but also strengthens our bond. The red is the connection to our whanau, and the red foil highlights our vibrancy and energy as a nation. The forks take on the abstract Tui beak and head look. Aotearoa is hidden in the jet stream. Overall, it represents a native bird – the tui – soaring through the air having adventures and travelling the world."

TIME Magazine listed Wishbone Bike among their 100 best design products for 2009.This prize is valued at NZ $6000.
