New Zealand women have a proud heritage: we were first in the world to win the right to vote. But we share a global problem: women write and direct only a tiny percentage of our feature films. Development’s
helping to change that. The transmedia Development project engages globally with women who want to make movies and with people who love them, and includes a European-influenced feel-good feature film, to be set in an imaginary corner of Wellywood. Development represents all that’s wonderful about New Zealand women: their talent, their love of adventure, their tenacity, their humour, and their warm hearts.
Spiral Screen Media, a non-profit organisation, continues the work of the Spiral Collective, publishers of Keri Hulme’s Booker Prize-winning
the bone people. We’re looking for partners to share our vision and our journey. Our partners—who benefit from association with the cultural capital that
Development represents—include trustees, sponsors (individual, community, corporate), and commercial entities seeking brand exposure through product placement and branded entertainment. We also want to increase our audience, who will engage with us on Facebook and Twitter, with our blogs
Wellywoodwoman and
HerFilm and, eventually, download the free
Development movie at home (
